The Motorola LCD on the 2020 Edge Is Good But Not As Good As the OLED Panel on the 2020 Edge
The Motorola lcd on this phone isn’t quite as good as the OLED panel on the 2020 Edge, however it still holds up well enough in this price bracket. The LCD tends to veer towards the blue end of the spectrum which isn’t ideal, but the contrast and brightness are very good for an LCD.
Colors
Motorola’s use of OLED makes this a super-bright display with impeccable contrast, and its colors are suitably vivid. The default color temperature is a bit cool, but Moto lets you tweak it. Its refresh rate is also a bit faster than the 60Hz norm, which keeps things looking smooth during video playback. It can also run at 120Hz, which is a big boost to responsiveness. Moreover, this is the first Motorola screen to support 10-bit colour, which enables billions of shades rather than just millions.
As with most LCDs, colors shift noticeably with a viewing angle, with red shifting the most by 1/2 times the Just Noticeable Difference standard. Green and blue shift much less, however. In fact, at a moderate 30 degree tilt, the screen is hardly noticeable.
Contrast
The display contrast available on Motorola lcd is measured by dividing the peak brightness Motorola lcd by the black level. The higher the value, the better the contrast.
In order to be calibrated a display must closely match the industry standard transfer function and intensity scale. Measurements of the full screen Red, Green and Blue images must agree with White to test for this. This can also indirectly determine how much power the backlight consumes because it varies the manual user backlight brightness setting based on the Average Picture Level.
The Droid’s Dynamic Contrast mode modifies this by adjusting the manual backlight brightness based on ambient light levels as well. This should improve visual comfort and increase the battery run time.
Brightness
There are a number of ways to control the brightness of your Motorola lcd. One way is to slide your finger downwards from the top of the screen to bring down the quick settings menu and then a bar will appear at the top with a brightness indicator. You can drag this left or right to adjust the display brightness. Another way is to press the blue function key and then either H or M to select the desired display brightness setting. Finally, you can also set the display to automatically adjust the brightness depending on your environment. This is a very useful feature that will save you time and energy.
Viewing Angles
One of the most important things about any display is the viewing angles. The peak brightness, black luminosity and contrast ratio tend to degrade with a slight change in the angle at which you view your Motorola lcd. Some display technologies, like IPS-LCD Motorola lcd and VA-LCD panels have much better viewing angles than TN type LCDs.
Colors also generally shift with a change in the viewing angle. Red usually shifts the most, followed by Green and Blue.
