Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality Simulator Platforms

Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology that allows users to immerse themselves in a virtual world. It is a powerful tool for education and training. It can also be used for entertainment and recreation.

One use of VR is in medical training. For example, surgeons can practice performing procedures using a VR simulator.

NOVASIM

NOVASIM is a Virtual Reality/Mixed Reality (VR/MR) simulator with 6 DOF motion which can be preconfigured for Simulation Companies as fully integrated Training solution or used as Integration Platform. Combined with state of the art Simulation Software and realistic 3D Jet Aircraft flight models NOVASIM offers state-of-the-art VR/MR training capabilities. Using Varjo XR-3 MR headset the pilot interacts with real cockpit avionics and controls while enjoying stunning 360deg virtual outside view of the enhanced Image Generator at level-D quality.

Advanced Rotorcraft Technology plans to use NOVASIM at Heli-Expo in California this year to demonstrate the simulator’s ability to fly various helicopters with differing model fidelities based on its Flightlab software. The system can also be reconfigured to display customer flight models and emerging eVTOL models, Ackermann said.

Unlike full flight simulators, the NOVASIM is mobile and can be moved easily from room to room or even taken to different events. It is built around a core platform, which can be modified with different rotary-wing or fixed-wing flight controls and configured for many aircraft types and training objectives. For example, it can be configured for helicopter egress training and inadvertent flight into IMC reviews, Ackermann said. Adding new aero models to the NOVASIM’s Visual System Software is easy, he added. The device can be configured to a Bell 407, Airbus H125 or UH-60 Black Hawk, for instance, by removing the collective and cyclic and adding fixed-wing controls.

MEWP

Statistically supported and industry accepted, MEWPs are considered the safest method of working at height. They’re also highly vr simulator platform maneuverable and efficient, making them the 1st choice for multiple industry sectors, trades persons, and workers. ANSI recently added new guidelines that focus on MEWP safety, inspections, training and rescue planning. These changes are intended to reduce incidents and injuries.

A MEWP risk assessment should be conducted before any work is performed, identifying the type of MEWP to be used and any potential hazards. The risk assessment should also identify the training and rescue plan requirements for operating the MEWP. The assessment should be clearly communicated to all workers involved in the MEWP operation.

MEWP training must include both theory (classroom or online) and practical (hands-on) operation and evaluation. All training must be delivered by a qualified trainer who is experienced with the class of MEWP being trained on. Training curriculum shall clearly identify the MEWP classifications covered and indicate the period for which the training is valid.

MEWPs must be thoroughly examined and inspected prior to each use and after each significant change in condition that could affect the safe operation of the MEWP. In addition, MEWPs should not be operated outdoors during a thunderstorm. In order to avoid lightning strikes, MEWPs should be parked in an enclosed building, such as a warehouse, and never used outside during a thunderstorm.

AIRCRAFT

The XTAL VR-Motion Platform from VRgineers combines state-of-the-art virtual reality technology with a motion platform, allowing professional military pilots to experience perfect visuals and realistic force feedback. The compact XTAL headset can be embedded in the flight helmet to allow for direct control of the selected aircraft or helicopter. The platform features four actuators and can simulate up to 2G’s of dynamic motion.

The platform also has a wide range of features that make it an excellent choice for military and commercial applications, including training simulators. It can be used to train personnel on a variety of subjects, from military aircraft and helicopters to maritime navigation and firefighting. It can even simulate a full-scale evacuation from a helicopter or airplane.

VTOL VR is one of the most fun and immersive flight simulators available for VR, with great vr simulator platform graphics and intuitive controls. While its not quite up to the level of DCS World or MSFS, it does offer a fantastically satisfying experience. Its also very easy to pick up and play, requiring only basic PC hardware.

Unlike traditional PC software programs, which can be frustrating to learn, VR-based simulators are designed to be more intuitive and user-friendly. They are much more flexible, require less space, and can be controlled by a yoke, throttles, and pedals. They also offer more tactile feedback, making them a more realistic experience.
